Ottawa, Canada

May 2026

Deadline for submissions – 23 February 2026

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit an abstract for the Holodomor Legacy Initiative, a scholarly project dedicated to producing high-impact, peer-reviewed research on the Holodomor.

This initiative is a cornerstone of the $10 million project funded by Global Affairs Canada to strengthen Ukraine’s National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide. Implemented by Cowater International in partnership with the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, the project aims to mobilize leading scholars to address critical gaps in the literature and advance global understanding of the Holodomor’s historical, demographic, and gendered impacts.

We are seeking abstracts (750–1,250 words) for an international symposium to be held in May 2026 in Ottawa, Canada. Submissions may address any relevant aspect, including historical, demographic, comparative, cultural, memorial, archival, or legal dimensions, and may be in EnglishFrench, or Ukrainian

Selected applicants will present their proposals at the Ottawa symposium and will receive support to develop their research for the initiative’s formal publication series.

Please submit your abstract and a brief CV via cowater.com/hm

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a landmark project that will reinforce the Museum’s role as the leading institution dedicated to research and communication about the Holodomor-Genocide.
