Call for Papers: Journal “Studi Slavistici”

The journal “Studi Slavistici” is pleased to invite proposals for a special issue (XV/2, 2018) dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI in 1918, a turning point in the history of Slavic peoples, when the birth of new Slavic countries following the disintegration of the Russian, Austrian and Ottoman empires triggered extensive transformations in their languages, literatures and cultures. 
The papers should focus on the following topics: 

  1. LANGUAGE ISSUES: Language policies in the new multi-ethnic countries; the standardization of Slavic languages in plurilingual states between diversification and convergence; strategies and goals of the philologies in the newborn Slavic countries; the challenges of technical-scientific modernity; propaganda rhetoric and language. 
  2. LITERARY ISSUES: Literature and history of literature; 1918: continuity and disruption in literary experimentations and avant-garde movements; the making of literary histories; the writers and the national languages; the shaping of the literary canon. 
  3. CULTURAL ISSUES: Narrations and counter-narrations: rediscovered or denied identities; myths and anti-myths; national rhetoric and regrets for the lost homelands; exaltation and criticism towards the rising of the new countries; use of history for nationalistic and celebrative purposes; the rewriting of textbooks and the remodelling of educational institutions; the mobilization of national philologies.

Please send your title proposal with a short description (max 2,000 characters with spaces) and a brief biographical note (300-600 characters with spaces) to [email protected]
Deadline: September 15th, 2017. 
Notifications of acceptance / rejection will be sent to the authors by October 10th, 2017. 
If the proposal is accepted, authors are required to submit their manuscripts (max 60,000 characters, including spaces, footnotes and references) through the on-line submission system.
Deadline: February 28th, 2018. 
Proposals and manuscripts may be in Italian, English, French, German, Spanish or any Slavic language.
